Valley Breaks Ground On  Clubhouse Renovation

Valley Breaks Ground on Clubhouse Renovation

After six decades, one of Philippine golf’s most iconic structures is finally getting a glow-up.

Last Monday, Valley Golf and Country Club held a simple groundbreaking ceremony to kick off the renovation of the veranda area in the main clubhouse.
Leading the rites was president Cons Kohchet-Chua accompanied by some members of the club’s board, namely VP Rio Venturanza, Treasurer Chino Raymundo, independent directors Ricky Libago and Ron See, and CorSec Allan Jocson, along with Ritchie Brijuega, president of Richbuild, the contractor who won the bidding for the project. Also present was Marvin Caparros, structural engineer and project manager, who is also a Valley member and formerly part of the board.

The lower veranda structure facing the South Course 18th green will retain al fresco dining on the ground floor, while the second storey will feature an air conditioned general dining area in the middle, a private dining room on one end, and a sports bar on the other end. This area will be almost 800 sqm in size in total. A new kitchen will also be installed, and a grand staircase and elevator will provide access to the second floor. There will also be a terrace for al fresco dining where one can view the action on the 18th green.

The curvature of the veranda will be retained to keep the “golf ball on a tee” motif of the clubhouse.
Work will commence in the first week of March and according to Brijuega, construction can be completed in just six months. After another month of equipment testing the facility could be open as early as the end of September.
The avante-garde clubhouse was penned by noted Filipino architect Gabriel Formoso, and the firm that serves as his legacy, GFP Architects, handled the design.

It is believed to be the first major redesign of this part of the clubhouse since it first opened. In recent years, the men’s and ladies’ lockers and hallway were given a makeover, and a new swimming pool was built, along with a multi-level golf cart parking building near the North Course.

Valley just concluded another successful staging of its member-guest invitational, the Don Celso Tuason and Valley Founders Cup.
